100th post and some silly pictures to boot :)

ah i can't believe that's our 100th post. the big 1-0-0. okay so it's no big deal really but i have to say i'm pretty fair chuffed. this post seems like yesterday and at the same time forever ago.

what started off as a way to document our new life together as a three and to keep all my family back home updated has (for me especially) become so much more.

this is my creative outlet i've been craving for so long.

it's made me really stop and take in all the simple pleasures in life.

it has put me in touch with some incredibly talented people who i admire greatly and am proud to call blog friends :)

it's given me confidence outside the role of 'mama'.

thank you everyone for your support and love. this little house really appreciates it, and if you're a new reader, welcome.

here is to the next 100 :)

you know your baby's not a baby, when they have a baby of their own...

okay so i'm talking about a plastic baby, but still it's days like today that make me realise all the more how my baby is no baby, but a little boy. a little boy who loves prams and dolls, love it :)

watching you today hold your baby close and shower him with your open mouth (it's a caleb thing ;) kisses made my heart literally skip a beat by how sweet you are, but also a little sad, watching you act so grown up. where has my baby gone??

just as the panic of you growing up too fast set in you quickly reassured me by swinging the baby round, holding him by his feet, and then dropping him in the dirt so you could run to the nearest bush. that's my boy. growing up is overrated, you take your time wee man.

thank you to our lovely friend, sam, for capturing these funny moments today. our english bank holiday buddy :)

can you reason with a toddler? case in point - freedom

toddlerhood has hit this little house like a freight train. there is literally no slowing this kid down. he doesn't walk, he runs. everywhere.

there are more 'where the hell has my kid gone?' moments than i care to admit. i might only lose sight of him for two seconds, but that is enough time for me to have an inner freak out. caleb has grabbed his freedom with both hands and literally is running with it. i want to find a balance of him enjoying his independence but also knowing when he has to listen to his mama. i'm not asking for much hey!

when it comes to listening to his mama, i have to hand it to my boy he does listen. is he happy about it though? hell no! cue tantrum and meltdown central. i know it's for his own good, like see that big road caleb? no you can't walk into it without holding my hand. i know, i know what an awful mama i am for not letting you do what you want to do? yes, yes i know it really is the end of the world. there. there.
as soon as that tantrum is over we walk into yet another hazardous situation and so it happens again.
with more tears.

i currently feel like i'm this big bad mama who is constantly giving her boy a hard time. i want him safe but i also want him to enjoy discovering the world, without my continuous 'no's' and, 'ah ah ah's' ringing in his ears.

therefore i decided each day to make sure i set aside a bit of time to take him somewhere (not too crowded and away from roads) were he can roam free. no mama saying 'this way/stop/slow down', just caleb leading the way and me following.

this is a trip to the park caleb style...

woo hoo i'm free!!!!!!!!!

where to next? ooh hello pretty flowers...

saving the best for last, the play park :)

this little daredevil likes to go down the slide on his tummy, and to think i'd only just got him to learn to sit on his bum to go down the slide. he'll decide. obviously ;)

this was caleb actually wanting to hold my hand! :)

then without any prompting from me caleb decided he'd had enough of the play park and that it was time to leave. so i quickly grabbed his pram and followed. he held onto the side of the pram for a few minutes and then again without any prompting from me started to climb into the pram. no me forcing him in wailing because we need to go, just him ready to leave and content.

now i know all day everyday can't be like this (we wouldn't get anything done!) but an hour can certainly be. hopefully he'll recognise this as his freedom time and will in turn cut his mama some slack when she has to be the boss. chances?? god loves a trier :)

this little house lately

the month of august is zooming by and i can't believe that summer is nearly over. michael started back at work today after seven weeks off, there were tears from caleb as his daddy (or daddeeeeeee as he likes to call him) left this morning. though thankfully he was easily distracted by a building block, ah the drama's of a toddler. one minute it's the end of the world next minute it's all, oohh building block.

we managed to cram a lot into michael's last week off though (poor man will be going back to work for a break!)...

we took advantage of the cool little pop up events for kids during the edinburgh festival. the sandpit in st andrew's square was a big hit with caleb.

building sand castles is serious business

not one spade, but two. at all times. them's the rules according to caleb.

chilling on a deck chair, as digging with two spades can get awfully tiring ;)

(note- trying to explain to caleb as we were leaving that the spades weren't his to keep did not go down well!)

there has been some great discoveries in this little house too...

the belly button!!

we ask him where his belly button is, he pulls up his top proudly stating 'der dat dis'. gets me everytime.

trying to get around the festival with a pram is pretty much impossible, so grandma edinburgh kindly offered to take care of caleb so we could have a little wander...

obviously we wandered straight into the signet library pop up champagne bar, at the top of the royal mile ;)

such a stunning building, and still a working library for lawyers even while the pop up bar is on.

it's lovely to have those 'just us' moments in places we wouldn't take caleb. thank you grandma edinburgh :)

behold the chaos that is the royal mile!

attacked by overenthusiastic people handing out flyers...it just wouldn't be the festival without them.

lastly a little family trip to dynamic earth

although more geared towards older children caleb had a whale of a time running about inside and out.

he literally DOES. NOT. STOP.

except for when there is a table to be sat at, child is obsessed! :)

so now it is back to business as usual. just me and my little dude. we'll miss you in the daytime daddeeeeee (and my cheeky lie ins through the week ;)
