new york part 1

hello new york indeed!! so lets just say our journey didn't exactly go to plan. for a start michael's younger brother was refused entry on to the flight due to a damaged passport, at first we thought they weren't serious and laughed it off but as it dawned on us there was no way he was getting on the flight you can imagine it was no laughing matter. so off he slumped in the hope of getting an emergency passport. which he didn't. turns out emergencies only happen monday to friday...gotta love that logic.

next up was michael's mum, she didn't have an esta the lady at check in informed her. she did, but it was one digit out from her passport therefore didn't register (kenny!;) just as we thought she'd be sent packing too we were told we could do it there and then, thank god!

so with a man down and the wind out of our sails we boarded the flight. it was going take something big to cheer us up....cue new york.
our first little glimpse
cheesy tourists in-coming
my first drink in new york while we waited for our room. they didn't ask for id, it would appear that ship has sailed :(
then we hot footed it over to the rockefeller center for the best view in town

this was such a wonderful introduction to new york. the sun beating down in its full glory. completely smitten
a quick drink pit stop at the waldorf astoria (as you do) before we headed to grand central station
i was blown away by grand central station, now that is a way to welcome people travelling to your city by train. we had an amazing steak at michael jordan's restaurant, but it was the view that was the winner for me

by 8.30pm we were exhausted and i could barely keep my eyes open, so we headed back the hotel and were tucked up and asleep by 9pm. by then my throat had started to hurt, my naivety thought it was overtiredness...ignorance was bliss at this point.

first day down and if it hadn't been for jet-lag there would have been no way i could have slept.

we're back

we're back! where to start? new york...well you're going to need a post or two, or three, or four about just how amazing you truly are. but for now we are sick in this little house :(

don't know about you but i usually get sick as soon as my body knows it can rest, and get sick it did. tonsillitis to be precise. bloody tonsillitis!!!! i could not believe it, by our second day in new york i had a fever and felt like i was eating glass every time i swallowed. nice huh! luckily the fever abated and with my new best pal (a throat-numbing spray) all was not lost.

we then arrived home to find poor caleb had not been well either, nothing serious so my mum didn't tell us as didn't want us to worry, bless her. we were home for all of a few hours when he started throwing up. so with two emergency appointments at the doctors, caleb and i are now penicillin buddies. turns out caleb has a chest, throat, ear infection. such a trouper with his smiles and giggles. he's certainly making me feel less sorry for myself.

thank goodness for a well (exhausted, jet-lagged) dad and grandma liverpool. thank you both for taking such good care of us.

when we're back to full health i'll be back with all our new york antics.

new york baby!

that's right this little lady and her man are off to nyc. it's been a crazy week of work, caleb's 1st birthday celebrations, and organising for going away, that i feel like i've not had a second to think about it and get properly excited. well i am now, like i'm a kid again on christmas eve excited.

i've never been before (michael has, a fact he's liked to remind me of over the years) and i feel like i'm going to lapland and disneyworld all wrapped into one.

our little dude will be staying at home with grandma liverpool, and seeing how excited my mum is for some caleb time all to herself makes me feel so much more at ease about leaving him.

so for the first time in a long time me and the mr will have four whole days (may as well be an eternity in parenthood time!) together and what better place to spend it. ahhhhhhh i'm so excited!! how i'm going to sleep tonight i'll never know, bet you caleb sleeps right through just to taunt me also.

see you all when i get back with a gazillion pictures i'm sure.
i'm off to sing me some sinatra :)

ONE

we did it. together. one year old baby boy! one year of parenthood. high fives on not killing the baby ;)
i have to admit to being one emotional mama this week. so today i thought i would be a wreck, but that was not the case. i felt so happy. happy about the year we've had, happy, happy that you're our son.

the day started with smiles, not hard when you have grandma liverpool in the house! my poor mum travelled up yesterday but got stuck in traffic so missed caleb before bed. watching the two of them together this morning was the sweetest thing.

so a few pictures of our day...
balloons are the best :)
just a card or two
present time
lets get this party started :)
 some buddies in disguise

showing grandma his 'i can shove a whole sausage roll in my mouth' trick
peek-a-boo grandad

after taking a few pics of the day i put my camera to the side, i didn't want to miss the day by trying so desperately to document it. this was a party after all ;)
but all was not lost, my niece ciara saw my camera and asked if she could take some pictures. take some (amazing) pictures she did! thank you my little talented photographer.

i cooked caleb his favourite meal for his birthday, meatball and chorizo stew.
my favourite lady in the world ♥
happy birthday to you (you weren't too sure about this bit)
think we took helping you blow the candle out a little too seriously!
now this bit you liked!
 me and my boys
our talented photographer

thank you so much to everyone today, near and far. all of you have made this the most incredible day. i'm overwhelmed by the love, and feel so blessed that caleb has such amazing, caring and wonderful people in his life.

looking forward to leg two in the pool :)

working mama

so bc (before caleb) i've always worked. as soon as i was old enough i got myself a job. my first job was at an expensive shoe shop, a shoe shop who's best customers were transvestites no less. we did a tall and small range and those lovely ladies could not get enough of them. i even became accustomed to serving them not as their alter ego's, there was once a guy who came in suited and booted straight from the office who got a size 11 white court shoes stuck on his foot. it was my job to yank it off...anyway i am totally getting off my point now...

so yes i've always worked. whether it be as an actor, waitress, bar assistant, host, cafe manager, transvestites shoe horn, lets be honest as an actor you do everything but act at times. i would have felt lost not working. so when i had caleb i knew i'd love my time at home with him but would be ready to go back to work when the time came, right?! wrong.

i have absolutely loved being at home with him, more than i thought i would. this is the hardest but the best job i have ever done. every job i've done i've thrown myself in 110%, of course motherhood was never going to be any different. so now it seems a strange and scary prospect to enter back into the working world. how do i do both 110%?

i'm lucky to have a great opportunity to work with a good friend of mine again. with a timetable that doesn't take me away from caleb too much. i'm so happy about this but my work self seems to be having a crisis of confidence. how as a mother can you do a million things at once whilst juggling a screaming baby but when it comes to work you can't retain the simplest of information? i laugh it off chalking it down to baby brain, but in truth it makes me feel like a right idiot and out of my depth. at that point i just want to be back with my baby boy, there i know what i'm doing (eh most of the time, well a little of the time...ok i'm winging it really) and feel i'm exactly where i should be, at work i've been feeling lost.

that was until today, today things just clicked. a bit like caleb's crawling did. i may not have cracked it completely but for the first time i felt happy to be there and a sense of satisfaction when the shift was complete and in front of me was all my handy work. this was then topped off by coming home to two very happy boys who had been having themselves a right old time together.

caleb had been fast asleep when i left this morning so what a treat is was to come home to his big smiling face. i think being a mum in this day and age can be tough. we're expected to bring up well adjusted children, keep a lovely home, and kill it at whatever job it is you do, all while looking good. who came up with these expectations? ourselves maybe?? i'm going to try my best not to buy into these expectations. i am so happy to be at home with caleb and having a job that can facilitate that, i might not always feel like i'm giving 110% to both at times, but i'm not going to beat myself up about it, i'm trying my best and surely that's what counts.

i also feel i need to add i came home to a tidy house and dinner on the table tonight. major brownie points, michael ♥
