Liebster Award

this little house has been nominated for an award by Katie, make sure you click and check out her lovely blog!
when i started this blog the only people i thought would be the least bit interested where my mum (well she did give birth to me) and my husband (i'm sure this falls under our vows). so to be recognised by a fellow blogger is amazing. not a bad way to start a snowy monday morning!

so a liebster award you ask? yes that was my question exactly, what???

liebster is a german word which pretty much means dearest, beloved. (ah thanks katie!)
the liebster award is awarded to up and coming blogs with less then 200 followers. you must link back to the person that nominated you and answer the 11 questions that they set. you then nominate 11 blogs you think deserve the award and set them 11 questions.

so here goes...

1. Who do you admire?
easy, my mum. her strength always continues to amaze me. having become a mum myself this last year i never fully appreciated how much i broke her heart by moving away. well now i do, and the fact she's always supported my choices makes me admire her all the more. i hope i can be the mother to caleb that she has to me.

2. What is your dream job?
i'm a trained actor so for a while i did live my dream job, but dreams change. the answer now, a mother, and nobody is more surprised by that answer than me!

3. What is your idea of the ultimate adventure?
discovering and exploring new places. experiencing their culture and stepping into whatever their pace of life is.

4. If you could have a superpower what would it be and why?
the ability to fly. who wouldn't want to be able fly?!

5. What is your guilty pleasure?
trash telly, and i mean trash. keeping up the kardashian's is a staple in my household.

6. Where is the weirdest place you've gotten "frisky"? (Oh yeah I went there.. hah)
oh no you didn't katie!!! a lady never tells. especially when this lady has her granddad following her blog ;)

7. If you could have dinner with anyone alive or dead, who would it be and why?
oh this is a hard one. too hard, so i'll just go with my all time crush, jared leto.

8. What is the best advice you've ever gotten?
it was very recently, live in the moment. so simple but a very hard thing to do.

9. If you won the lottery what is the first thing you'd buy?
i'd buy my mum her dream home somewhere hot hot hot

10. Dream travel destination?
i've always wanted to go to new york and come april i'll be there. woo hoo!!

11. Most embarrassing moment?
ah now have you got all day?? let's just say after giving birth embarrassing moments are pretty standard. especially when you have the 'george clooney' of the hospital tending to you :(

and my nominations, i going for quality rather than quanity, and have picked my favourite reads that fit (or i think at least they do :) the criteria.

  1. henna blossom
  2. something like a fairy tale
  3. lulu's wonderland
  4. oh! you pretty things
  5. breakfast at vogue
  6. harrovian mamma
  7. this little mum
  8. seven year hitch

and my questions for you are...

  1. if you were stranded on a desert island what would be your 'must have' item?
  2. what is your biggest fear?
  3. what is your earliest memory?
  4. if you could live in any era what would it be?
  5. what is your biggest vice?
  6. what would be your dream home?
  7. what fact would people be surprised to learn about you?
  8. what is relaxation to you?
  9. biggest regret?
  10. favourite all time film?
  11. if you could be anyone for a day who would it be?

hope you enjoy taking part in this as much as i did ladies! in the short time that i've been blogging i am blown away by all the talented people out there, it's a honour to be a part of this community.

a week in this little house

this little guy has been...

  • giving kisses when you ask him for one. need to work on eliminating the tongue though!
  • grabbing our noses with a vice-like grip. seriously caleb you strength is astounding at times.
  • having a growth spurt. you're chubby cheeks are slimming down :( but long live the chubby legs :)
  • crawling. it may only have been a little bit, but people, we have movement!!
  • posting. a term one of caleb's playgroup leaders told me about when i mentioned he was slotting his toys into any gaps he can find. you're so funny son, i'm finding your toys everywhere. for a boy who's not doing a whole lot of crawling that's pretty impressive.
  • having a boy's weekend with daddy while i was in liverpool. you're a charmer when it comes to the ladies but you're a boy's boy at heart. football, pizza, chilling, few more years and it will be beers added onto that list ;)

i missed you so much today on my very first mother's day. thank you for my beautiful cards, i will keep them forever, and thank you for being the best boy for daddy while your aunty jayne and i took your grandma to see 'the script' in liverpool. you should have seen grandma dancing, caleb ;)
thank you ladies for an amazing weekend, i've laughed so much and loved all my cuddles with the other little man in my life, nathan. can't wait to bring caleb to the pool in april. promise we'll go for more fine-dining and drinks :P
oh and grandad, best. breakfast. ever.

to all the amazing women in my life, you know who you are. happy mother's day ♥

this little wall

rewind six months ago when caleb had a nap, i had a nap. simple.
he then went through a stage where he would only nap in his pram when we were out and about, sleeping on a park bench didn't really seem an option. so my naps fell at the wayside. oh but it was good while it lasted, nothing quite like waking up with drool down your face not remembering your own name. how does a nap do that to you?! i swear it's the deepest, most wonderous type of sleep. so now when i have a napping baba, i'm a girl with some time on my hands.
which brings me to this wall. this bathroom wall has been bugging me for the longest time. all empty and white. well not anymore! i'm pleased with the initial result but it's definitely a work in progress. for me the walls in a house should tell a story. for this one, the thrifted pictures will remind me of a lovely day i had with my son, the top frame was empty so i decided to go old school, whip out the teabags and stain some card (please tell me i'm not the only one who loved doing that at school?!) and then i wrote a sonnet that is very dear to us, sonnet 116, by william shakespeare. our beautiful friend sam handpicked this and read it at our wedding, and the mirrors, well, they were just pretty. you always need something pretty on a wall too ;)

freestyling tuesday

so i had lots of lovely plans for today but these were quickly scuppered when i realised i had not reminded michael to leave caleb's car seat....again!! oh baby brain you have a lot to answer for. so it was a fly by the seat of your pants sort of day.

and here is what we did...
caleb caught up on his mags first thing
playtime with his new best bud, horsey (i put a lot of imagination into naming that toy for him ;)
then we hit town where we found these little thrifty treasures in one of my favourite charity shops. i've been looking for some pictures to go with these little beauties....
i fell in love with these matthew williamson mirrors, the perfect feature for a very empty bathroom wall.
our thrifting took on a new high when i found this 70s lee bender bus stop blouse. beautiful bird detail.

then we lunched at the rosehip on rose street, plenty of room for prams, great highchairs, and friendly staff. win win on the dining with a baba stakes.
oh and the best cullen skink
how do they do it?! you move everything and they still manage to do their go gadget arms and reach something!
loooove this wallpaper, and a gin and slim for that matter, must make a date in the diary for that one.
after lunch we walked off our cullen skink with a trip to princes street gardens (if you look closely to the left of this picture you'll see an empty cigarette packet is speared onto the rails....ah city life)
the view from our little spot. best view. ever.
the most amazing apple turnover from the Turkish stall from the world market on castle street
caleb was seriously impressed by this puff pastry delight and of course the crumbs it made.

after a play and an explore of the grass i had one very tired caleb on my hands. perfectly timed my boy, this mamma got a chance to sit in the sun and drink a coffee hot, not cold, not luke warm, hot. bliss.

so for a day that had its plans wiped first thing, this turned out to be a pretty damn good one. i love that we're just a walk or a bus away from town, edinburgh is our oyster :)

to finish off the day nicely it was dinner and drinks with the girls. and now to bed.

a week in this little house

this little guy has been.....

  • teething something rotten but now has two new teeth to show for it and another on the way! high five in the teeth department wee man!
  • sharing. when i say, 'mummy have' you pass me whatever is in your hand. sweet, sweet boy.
  • having a fine old time celebrating his granddad's birthday.
  • munching on manchego cheese and loving it, our spanish friends will be very proud
  • bird-watching. the cutest thing ever, he hears the tweets and his head shoots up searching for them.
  • pulling himself up on the furniture, tables, chairs, me.
  • almost there with the crawling, he can get both legs from under him now, just a case of what to do with them after that!!

with your first birthday just around the corner i'm struck by how much you're changing everyday. you're incredible to watch and you make the little moments feel so big. thank you for that my dear boy. you really are our little dude.
