there is a SPRING in our step

the sun is out! yes in edinburgh. crazy but true, and it's not even that, 'I'll just pop out for five minutes and get my pal rain to come out instead' sun. it's full beautiful days of the stuff. everywhere i look spring is in full pelt, and this little house is pretty happy about that.

it's been a looooonnng winter, there's only so many cosy days and nights you can have before the novelty well and truly wares off and you crave for the sun and outside. so bye bye christmas jumpers we love you but it's time to pack you away.

i'm already getting excited about bare legs, ballet pumps, sandals, light jackets.......okay now i am getting a little ahead of myself, must remember i live in scotland. but hey they don't call it bonny scotland for nothing, you truly are at your prettiest with a bright blue sky.

see what i mean, bonny.
caleb feeding the ducks for the 1st time! well mummy was feeding the ducks, caleb was eating the bread.
you look so grown up in this picture caleb (sob sob)
ahh blue skys
spring at it's best

*thank you Jodie for taking the pictures of caleb and i feeding the ducks ♥

back in business

oh yes we are back in business, like 'belly rumbling pass me the food and keep it coming' business. it was nice to get up and feel like myself again, no brave face on for caleb, I was actually happy to be up and about. okay i could have done with it not being a 6am rise but hey now i'm just being picky ;)

someone who was not sharing my monday cheer though was caleb. he was a teething, frustrated mess. i feel so bad for him at the minute, the teething i can soothe but the crawling and walking there's only so much i can do but the majority of the work is down to him. he's on the cusp of it, which in turn makes him even more frustrated, the chocolate cake is just slightly out of reach.

i hate seeing you like this wee guy, but i promise you keep working at it and you'll get there, and when you do i think we'll both deserve a big slice of chocolate cake!

if anyone has any great crawling, walking tips i'm all ears, has anyone else dealt with a teary baby over this? he was happily bum shuffling everywhere a couple of weeks ago but is no longer satisfied just doing that now :(

a week in this little house

this little guy has been...

  • in his element having his great aunty and cousins visit. breakfast time has not been the same.
  • asleep again for his second ever visit to edinburgh castle.
  • taking swimming lessons from his cousins.
  • saying, ok said, 'mummy' and i wasn't even there :(  there was more than one witness. i wait with baited breath my boy.
  • in agony with his teething. it's been rotten for you baba, one minute smiling the next reduced to tears.
  • at his happiest standing. though we have to watch out for you launching yourself backwards without warning, there was one particular head cracking instant that you brushed off in minutes but left your mum and dad, shall we say, slightly traumatised.
  • loving his grapes peeled, yes peeled! not by me but by his grandma, lucky boy.
you've been a trooper having to put up with your two poorly parents. we're over the worst of it now though whoop whoop! now all we need is this teething to give you a break, you've definitely had your fair share this week son.

Teething Tantrums & the Lovely Norovirus

today has been a tough one. michael is now sick. i'm no longer being sick but oh am I tired and achy. throw into the mix a teething 11 month old and you can quite imagine the scene here today. gone are the days of sticking your head under the covers to re-emerge three days later well and ready to face the world. instead what faced the world today was one mama who sooo pretended to be okay, i mean i even put some make up on, who was i kidding? it would appear only myself. caleb and i got as far as a lucozade run for dad and that was me. done. exhausted.
the day rapidly went down hill, caleb's teething took it up a notch. my head felt like it was going to explode, and michael was bedridden. lucozade was not going to save the day it would appear. had it not been for a few special moments i would have happily pretended this day never happened.
as it hit afternoon and my patience was at its end, caleb threw me a lifeline, and it was as simple as cuddles on the couch. he's not an overly cuddly baby, never has been, such a tease. but today just when i thought i was going to sink into a pool of my own tears, out he pulled the biggest cuddles and smiles. it's like he knew. this quickly followed by making me laugh by playing with his new favourite toy, some great v-tech or fisher price wonder you ask?? no. a kitchen roll tube. he uses it like a fog horn and finds this hilarious. i do too son, i do too.
so as parenthood goes this certainly has not been one of my favourite days, but has somehow held some of my favourite moments. i guess that is what true parenthood is. it isn't perfect, it isn't easy. it's damn hard, but oh my is it worth it. now to tidy up this place that once resembled our home and check on my poor husband.
i hope you're having a lovely weekend minus the norovirus!

SICK :(

this little house has a sickness bug. it started with caleb, but i think that boy has guts of steal as it doesn't seem to have fazed him and is now back to normal. his mother however, not the case. oh and what a rubbish patient i am. i hate being sick (like cry for my mum hate being sick). so it would appear there are two babies in this house at the moment. thank you to my husband who got home from work as soon as he could, not to mention bringing lucozade which has been my life line today, and thank you to grandma for taking care of caleb this afternoon. you realise how there's not much room for sickness when you have children so i am very thankful for all the help. caleb i will be back in business asap.

in the meantime i found this picture from you having your last breakfast with your cousins before they left. what a happy boy, this picture is cheering me up no end while you're away having fun.

this little house has visitors

this is one happy little house as we have visitors from the pool (liverpool that is). i'm always so excited by this but now watching caleb get excited too is the sweetest. he has literally been beaming from ear to ear since their arrival and not even his latest bout of teething is dampening his mood. eh can you make sure you stay until that bad boy tooth is fully through??

he's been enjoying lots of cuddles with his great aunt (even her singing!) and non stop playing with his cousins, they are amazing with him and so patient. they've been helping him with his standing and crawling, while caleb has been showing them his dancing and the ability to shove a whole sponge in his mouth before i managed to prise it from his hands. i mean is that boy serious, all those toys in the bath and what does he go for? of course the sponge, the plug, the tap.

living away from family can be hard, but when we do get to spend time together i really do feel like it's proper quality time. also if i ever had any fears that caleb would not remember my side of the family i needn't have worried. big smiles as soon as he saw them, that's his scouse roots shining through, attaboy!

by the way, could his cousins be any cuter, the top pictures are a message they made for caleb with his letters for him to find in the morning. obviously he destroyed it in record timing.

a week in this little house

this little guy has been......

  • desperately wanting to crawl. you can do it son, i know you're frustrated you can't get about as quick as you would like. keep up the good work, once you get that pesky leg from under you you'll be off. promise.
  • obsessed with strawberries. mum not so crazy about the stains though ;)
  • growing growing growing, 9-12 months clothes bite the dust.
  • a little tinker while i was away. up four times in the night. missing mummy (i was missing you) or just amused by seeing daddy's tired face??
  • so funny at dinner times. you're new favourite thing to do is to pretend to feed us but really you're just toying with us and eat it yourself. caleb does not share food.

loved your 'lady and the tramp' moment with your daddy. you make me smile so much son ♥

this little lady

this little lady got a night away all to herself. so off i popped with my not so light bag (of course i had to pack the kitchen sink i was away for a WHOLE night) to meet up with my girlies for my friend's hen do.

a lot has happened in our little group, babies, engagements, weddings, 30th's. so much to celebrate, but with that life has got so busy for us all and our meet ups are fewer and further between. so it was a chance for us to catch up, relax, and of course pop a cork or two or three, four, five....

thank you for a wonderful time ladies. i love you loads and i will always partake in an interpretative dance session, i think we've found our new prop with the toilet roll :P

Valentine part 2 ♥

okay so i can't really call this part 2 in the photo stakes seeing as my phone decided to call it a night and i didn't have my camera. but anyhoo here's the ones i did manage to take.
mikey and i (shock horror) sharing gravy, i think he was trying to be all extra romantic ;)

the mr and me

and my last shot of the evening recorded the utter madness that is krispy kreme opening in edinburgh. massive traffic jams and queues of people looping round it. now i love a donut...but really?!!

thanks for a lovely night my love. you're my favourite person to share gravy and watch bad films with ;) we don't get much time now as a two but when we do i love every minute of it. but next time i get to choose the movie ok?!
